DESCRIPTION:
Locus of control was developed from social learning theory which describes the degree to which an individual believes that reinforcement are contingent upon his/her own behaviour. There are two types of locus of control; internal and external. Internal locus of control refers to individuals who believe that reinforcements are contingent upon their behaviour, capacities or attributes. External locus of control refers to individuals who believe that reinforcements are not under their personal control but rather are under the control of powerful others, luck, chance. fate, etc. Thus depending on the past reinforcement experiences, a person will develop a consistent attitude tending towards either an internal or external locus as the source of reinforcement.
